Project Overview

PCSD developed a former airport parking facility in East Boston into a new middle and high school campus for Excel Academy. The two-acre site is part of a former railroad and industrial zone re-developed as community spaces, including the East Boston Greenway, the Library, and the YMCA. Construction of this campus allowed Excel Academy to move its Orient Heights middle school into a new home, while creating a high school that serves the three Excel Academy middle schools in East Boston and Chelsea.

Construction on the new campus was completed in 2016. The campus design includes a three-story classroom building, with the middle school and shared spaces located on the first floor and the high school occupying the second and third floors. The campus also includes a two-story cafeteria and a gymnasium framing a courtyard opening onto the Greenway beyond.
