Caliber Public Schools was looking for a permanent facility for Caliber: Beta Academy, its TK-8 school currently located in Richmond. PCSD collaborated with Caliber and found an opportunity at an existing West Contra Costa Unified Schools District (WCCUSD) site, which allows them to modernize an existing space and construct new classrooms. The project will be ready in time for the 2022-2023 school year.
The project will involve the demolition of 10 existing portables, the modernization of an existing 36,000 sf classroom building and multi-purpose rooms, and the construction of a new TK/Kindergarten building and a new Middle School building. There will be a total of 36 classrooms and 67,097 square feet, of which 20 classrooms and 44,391 square feet are rehab and 16 classrooms and 22,705 square feet are new construction.
Caliber was awarded two separate California Charter School Facility Program (CSFP) Award Funds totaling $26MM: $14.8MM Rehabilitation Prop 51 award and $11.2MM New Construction Prop 51 award. Additionally, Caliber received Charter School Facilities Incentive Grant funds.
