PCSD recently completed a new campus for Stella Charter Academy Middle School, a Bright Star School. The students at Stella Middle are more proficient, on average, than students in district middle schools, while serving a population that is 95% low-income. Having a high-quality school will transform the lives of Stella Middle School students, and provide a high-quality school in an area of Los Angeles where 40% of the schools are in the lowest decile in the State of California.
PCSD acted as project manager for the Bright Star Stella Middle School Project, managing the discovery of an underground stream, which involved significant remediation and design changes. In addition to the 21 classrooms, the school has a gymnasium and an outdoor exercise course. PCSD is working with Bright Star on other schools in their South Los Angeles cluster – the recently opened Stella Elementary Charter Academy, and the original Bright Star Secondary Charter Academy, opened in 2006.
