PCSD is managing the development and construction of a new facility for Bright Star School’s Valor Academy High School (VAHS). VAHS is the second project that PCSD has managed for the Bright Star Schools network. The school is currently in its third year of operations, co-located on the Panorama High School campus. The new site will be located in North Hills, roughly one half mile from the recently completed Valor Academy Middle School. At full enrollment, Valor Academy HS will serve 500 students in grades 9-12.
The school has 99% minority students and 91% of students are eligible for the Federal Lunch Program, a measure of economic disadvantage. 16% English-language learners and 15% special education learners. Of the English language learners, 14% were able to be re-classified in May 2015 into regular classes. In 2014-2015, the school implemented Advanced Placement classes and next year 40% of the student body will be taking these courses. All students are required take courses in Spanish, Physical Education and Music, and all students take courses to be eligible to apply to the University of California.
PCSD is providing development services to manage construction of a new 30,000 sq. ft. educational building on 2.3 acres, located at 9334 Lemona Ave in North Hills. This new facility includes approximately 23 classrooms (science lab, music room, media center, and elective classrooms), a multi-purpose room, counseling center, Special Education center, teacher’s lounge, administrative office space and a lunch courtyard.
