Description: General Contractor: Del Amo Constructiona3200 Adams Boulevard is located in South Los Angeles in the vibrant community of Arlington Heights/ West Adams. The area is a multi-generational community that is primarily composed of African American and Latino families. The immediate area is made up of multi-family units, with varying institutional uses surrounding the site: a church, public elementary school and city service center. A public park is two blocks away. The parcel is 77,536 square feet and is improved with two separate buildings, a church and a school. The church is situated at the north end of the parcel facing West Adams Boulevard. It was built in 1957 and is currently 15,835 square feet. The school is at the south end of the parcel, was built in 1997 and is 31,862 square feet. The proposed project will provide a permanent home for two existing schools operated by the Inner City Education Foundation: Frederick Douglass Academy Middle School and Frederick Douglass Academy High School. The site capacity will be 875 students. At full enrollment the middle school will have 325 students, while the high school will have 550 students. The school will be developed in two phases. Phase I was completed in time for a Fall 2008 opening incorporating 23 classrooms and allowing 550 students to occupy the building. This phase improved the existing school building at the rear of the property by bringing the building up to current codes, increasing the amount and size of classrooms, and providing vital administrative and shared spaces. The second phase of the project consists of the conversion of the existing one story chapel building into a two story, 13 classroom school building housing middle school students. The scope of the project encompasses full renovation of the existing structures and the insertion of a new second story into the church building. In addition, a new exterior elevator tower, terrace, exterior stairs, site work and landscaping and lunch shelter are part of the project. The total square footage at completion will increase to 23,387. 2008-2009 API: 662 2009-2010 API: 631 2010-2011 API: 685
