Project Overview

This new facility provides a permanent home for Equitas Academy Middle School, which opened in 2013 and was located in an LAUSD Prop 39 facility.  The school enrolls 370 students and anticipates retaining many of Equitas’ elementary school students through their middle school years.

The site is located in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles, on a commercial corridor just west of downtown. The 23,600 sf building is a two-story shell constructed in 2009. The facility has 15 classrooms, a multi-purpose room, administration space, a small outdoor space and underground parking. The site is easily accessible via public transportation.

Equitas Academy opened its first elementary school in 2009, which is located in a permanent school facility built by PCSD in the Pico Union neighborhood of Los Angeles. Equitas’ elementary enrolls 450 students in grades K-5.  Equitas was founded by Malka Borrego, an alumnus of the Building Excellent Schools (BES) Fellowship, a year-long, comprehensive training program in urban charter school creation and leadership.
