Project Overview

This is a phased development of a two-school campus of Alliance College-Ready Public Schools. Phase I created a 24-classroom building for Alliance College-Ready Middle School #8 in 2013. Completed in 2016, Phase II built Morgan McKinzie High School. The combined schools have seats for 1,050 students in grades 6-12.

For years, the site had been home to a department store – the First Street Store. The building’s facade contains 17 tile murals depicting the Chicano history of this largely Hispanic community. The mural served as design inspiration for the building, and was preserved as part of the project. The two-story school contains 23 classrooms, ample administrative space, and exterior balconies ring a large courtyard. A multi-purpose room, shared by both schools, sits at the end of the courtyard and marks the entrance to the high school.
